Miscarriages = Emotional Roller-coasters

    Here recently, I have come across a whole slew of postings written by blog owners whom were currently having, or had just gone through having, a miscarriage. My heart cried for every single one of them! I know all to well what they are going through. If you too have gone through one, you do too. If you haven't, then you can (and should!) love us, try to encourage us, and keep tissues handy, but you can not fully understand. Nor would any of us whom have experienced one, ever honestly want for you to fully understand. Our vote would be that nobody ever go through such a thing again. Period.

    I tell people that I had six pregnancies in six and a half years time, out of which we were able to keep four sons (or something very similar in wording). "I had two, lost two, then had two more".
    But the truth of the matter is, I 'lost' more than two. For those two, I was three months into the pregnancies when I miscarried. The second one resulting in a D+C. Both were in a year's time span.
     But there were s-e-v-e-r-a-l other times that I also had miscarriages. Times when I missed a monthly, was experiencing all of the early stage side effects of pregnancy (that my body never seemed to realize could be 'optional') and KNEW that I was again pregnant. Each time I had called the Dr's office to set up a first check-up for that particular pregnancy, only to then start bleeding before the appointment date came around. HEAVY bleeding, with certain other symptoms, which my doctor confirmed were signs of a miscarriage. Instead of my appointment being the first pregnancy appointment, it would end up being another "yearly" type appointment, so that he could make sure everything was okay.

     But my reasoning behind writing this particular posting, is NOT to generate sympathy for myself. Honest!  My reasoning is to try and help others who themselves are experiencing one. And I would also love to be able to shed some light to the rest of you, about what it is we are going through. Why we don't seem to respond to your kind words the way you think we should. And about the depression that can follow such an experience.

    While our heart try to reassure us that it's not our own fault that we are experiencing what we are, our mind questions everything anyways. And re-questions. And casts great shadows of doubt. "How could our body do such a thing?" "What is wrong with me?" "Which activity was it that I did that I shouldn't have?!" "Is this punishment for that thing I did back when?" "So and so is trying so-o hard to get pregnant and yet my body rejects a pregnancy?!!!" And on it goes....

    People, usually with hearts in the right place, and meaning ever so well, say things that just heighten the inner turmoil.
    Things such as, "It's probably for the best, maybe the baby wasn't formed right". And our mind silently questions, "What?! You don't think I'm cape-able of loving or caring for a special needs baby?!!!"
    Or, "At least you have the other ones". And we think, "So you think I'm wrong for mourning this one?!"
    Or, "Just be thankful for the ones you have." And inside we question, "I AM!!! But does that have to mean I can't also mourn the loss of this one?!?"
    Or, "God has a reason you know." And silently we scream at them, "I KNOW THAT! But that doesn't make this easy to swallow/accept right now. It's not like you just gave me the magic cure pill you know!"
    And the list goes on.
    Almost ANY and EVERY thing, that ever so well meaning people say, our minds twist on us. Why? Because our emotions are running on overload. And whether others like to accept this as truth or not, there is actually very little that we can do to turn them off.
    "Just pray about it dear." Or, "Tis best to leave it in God's hands."
    Oh, we pray alright. Sometimes pleadingly. Sometimes angerly. Sometimes while curled into a tight wad on the floor or our bed, sobbing our eyes and hearts out. Other times while pacing the floor with our fists clamped tight. We pray. And in our inner self, we know both that God listens, and that healing takes time. We just want the magic wand thank-you very much. And NO, we are not being unrealistic! ()

    And then there is the terminology behind all of it. They claim you "lost" a baby. "No I didn't!!!" (with the "I" underlined. Several times.) " "I" didn't just sit it down someplace and forget where that was!" (And do NOT laugh at us should we say that out loud. Laughter IS good. However, after such a statement is NOT the time!)

    So what then should well meaning people say?  "I LOVE You! and I'm praying for you!!" Period. And then put some actions behind those words. Drop a meal, any meal, off in a cooler on their porch. Something that just needs baked in their oven or re-heated in their microwave. The rest of their family needs to eat, whether they feel like fixing something or not. And we need to eat too. And we're more likely to do so, if you made it for us. Or at the least, brought it to us. Part of that silent guilt trip stuff our mother's in-grained into us (;-p).
    Loan a good (FUNNY and romantic, not "perfect life") chick flick (that does NOT have any babies in it!), as well as sending something wondrously chocolate (at least for most of us, this helps).
    Send cards. Not necessarily the super sweet dripping from them types. Nor even necessarily the heavily verse laden type. Our hearts already know all of that. What our hearts are having challenges with, is being able to smile. Or laugh. And sometimes (to be bluntly honest), even to care (about anything else that is). Help us smile.

    Laughter really truly is the best medicine. And the old saying about "actions speaking louder than words"  is true too. So use both!
    No, I AM NOT meaning be insensitive! ! ! Don't be!!! Your grandmother has no interest in having to come back to shake her rolling pin at you!
    Just SHOW you care. Instead of stopping them at the store, or in church, or at school, or where-ever, to try and console them; rub your hand across their back and again state that you love them and are praying for them. Plain. Simple. But oh so meaningful. And really hard for our emotional mind to twist on us!

    Another huge aspect of our emotional roller-coaster at the time, is how out of the blue, things can instantaneously hit us like lead balloons.
    Things such as: the cry of somebody else's baby. Even in a movie. Or at the store. Or in the next car over.
    Or, the sight of a multiple kid family at the park.
    Or "Baby's First Christmas" ornaments several months later at the store.
    Or certain songs. Songs such as, "It will be worth it all, when we see Jesus" ("I do love you Lord, and I want to see you, but are you sure?!") Or, "Cats in the cradle", amongst others.
    And no, we ourselves don't always know the "whys" behind why something "set us off". We just know it did. And we are sorry. But that doesn't mean we can switch some switch and turn the tears back off either.  If only.

    And yes, you might find us in the rocking chair, cuddling empty receiving blankets, fantasizing and crying. Your right, emotional women sometimes do weird things. (Shrug) Come sit on the floor near us and wait. Just your presence can be strengthening. And lend silent support. And show proof that you care. And love us.

    And husbands, we KNOW that lots of you handle things inwardly and don't always like to talk out your emotions. But our minds often take that silence and twist it to be that you are keeping silent, so that we don't hear your inner condemning of us for "loosing" your child. We NEED to hear that you too are hurting inside. And that all of this DOES matter to you. That as a team we WILL make it through this.
    Oh, and don't suggest trying again. Not yet. Not for awhile. If we question it, gently reassure us that there is plenty of time to think about all of that later. Down the road of life a bit.

    Almost all women, after a miscarriage, are challenged with discouragement. Often, others label it as "depression". But in actuality, it is just serious discouragement.  However, discouragement can grow into depression. The process there is a down ward spiral moving through anger, bitterness, the making up of excuses, and the feeling like it's "too hard on me/more than I can bear."
    Husbands, friends, do not vocalize the word depression to the grieving women. It will only feed the inner turmoil and aid the inner guilt feelings. Sometimes just hearing others say that they think you are, makes you think you are too.
    Now true, there are varying levels of discouragement. The more a women hears people saying their "well meaning comments", the more she spirals into a deeper level of it.
    Women whom have already had previous miscarriages, are far more likely to spiral faster. Especially if the events are relatively close together. 
    The longer the husband stays silent about the subject and/or distant, the quicker she spirals. That may not be "fair". But it's the way it is.

    What things then would I suggest for you TO do? 
    I mentioned sending cards. More than one. Weekly for a month would be good. Maybe even longer. Things like "I'm so lucky to have you as a friend". Or, "Thinking of you today and sending you a smile." Etc..
    I mentioned taking a meal. Not your "thing"? It's not theirs either right now. This is one of the times when a pan of pre-made frozen lasagna is actually more than "o-kay". As is pre-made frozen Mac. + Cheese. Your actions are what's most important here!
    Make sure we eat. On a daily basis. Multiple times a day. And not just "junk food". (No, this is not the same as taking us a meal.) A miscarriage can zap our physical strength as well as our emotional strength. Our emotional condition worsens if our physical condition does not start to rebound quickly. Therefore, make sure we are actually eating. Seems basic? Trust me, it's an easy thing for women to avoid doing while experiencing emotional duress. 
    I mentioned loaning movies and sending chocolate. Or take us out for a movie and chocolate dessert afterwords. However, avoid sitting to home watching TV shows, where in the end it looks like everybody lives "perfect lives" and all problems always get settled with acceptable explanations. Those only makes our life even harder to accept right now.
    While we do need to cry and "let it all out", there comes a point when the crying stops helping and instead starts hurting. It then helps the despair to grow. How do you get us to stop? Do NOT tell us to, "knock it off with the caterwauling women!" Remember, there is a good chance we might end up facing a women judge, who herself has been through a miscarriage. o;-p.
    Instead, show us your hope and let us live on that for awhile. See, all of ours seems to have vanished. Hope that after a bit, we will start feeling better. Physically. And emotionally. Hope that together we will pull through this, like we have other challenges before this. Hope that just maybe, 'the sun will come out tomorrow'.  Right now, it is like we are trying to look at life through dark shadowy glass. We KNOW that "God has his reasons", what we don't know, is how we're going to hold on till we feel that trust blossoming again.
    Get us up and moving. The longer we sit, the worse we get. If the doctor has ordered that we not be up and about for awhile, then get others moving around us. Where we can see them. And interact with them.
    If we can be up and moving, encourage us to do so. In kind, gentle, loving ways. We already KNOW, thank-you very much, that the dishes need done, and the clothes need washed, etc.. What we're unsure of is, do you still want to spend time with us? As a friend? As a husband? As a still loved family member? Take us out for ice cream. Or for a short relaxing walk (a power walk will only remind us that we have "baby fat" to lose. Whether we really do or not). Or for a drive looking at cute houses. Or what ever type of thing really hits your women's "fancy".
   Sit down with us and help us make up a "list". A "fun" or "pleasure" list. Include even the simplest of things. Then encourage us and help us to do at least two of the items off of the list, every  single  day.

    My true desire is, that reading this has helped you in some way. May what I myself experienced and what I have helped others through, be found beneficial to you and others.
    If you are one of the women whom has recently (or currently) experienced a miscarriage, perhaps this gave you insight into yourself.
    Or, perhaps it is a resource you can refer others to, to help them understand you and what your going through better.
    If you are her spouse, hopefully this gave you insight into how all of this is affecting her, as well as ways you can help this women you love so deeply.  And for the record, you too have our sympathy. HONEST!!! It's just that for awhile, we need you to be our knight in shining armor like never before. In the end, we'll grow even closer to you because of it! ;->
    For the rest of you - If a friend or relative of yours goes through this, my prayer is that all of this will come to mind and that you will find the information contained herein helpful, as you help her cope. And hope.

A "Grandma Tale" :->

    In THIS posting, I had mentioned that Brian and I helped our son Byron with a 'project' while we were there. In involved rearranging one end of their living room. Moving bookcases. And fish tanks. And all of Analyse's toys. Etc.
     When I got up Sunday morning, Grandpa was already up, as was the bright eyed, full of energy, two year old Analyse. It didn't take long for Grandpa to take me up on my suggestion for him to go back to bed. We had no clue how many times Elliot had woke his parents up during the night, but they were currently all sleeping. I hoped to allow them to continue to do so. My challenge became to keep diverting Ms. Analyse from wanting them to get up, and from wanting to see the "BABY!". 
      I decided to get started on the project for Byron. I figured she'd need to see what all I was doing. I knew that with her assistance, I was taking a big chance on not getting very far very fast. But if I did make a little progress AND was able to keep her occupied, it was a win!
     You know how those type of rearranging projects always go. You have to move the stuff from point A, temporarily to point C, until you move the stuff from point B to point A, so that you can then put the stuff from point A into point B. And there was a lot of 'stuff'!!
     In the beginning, point A contained both of the bookcases. One of which held one of the fish tanks. Both of which had large plastic bins in front of them, overflowing with toys and stuffed animals. So I started with both of them. Humm... where to put the overflowing stuffed animals? I wanted them out of the way enough that they could be navigated around. A place where they might end up staying the entire day, depending on what all happened once everybody was up.
     I chose one of their full size couches. The first couple I just tossed on there. But then I got curious, just how many stuffed animals did this girl have anyways? Mercy! So I started lining them up the length of the couch. Squeezed tightly together. And then smaller ones sitting in front of larger ones. And some balanced on the back of the couch. And along the arm rests. And... "My goodness, how can she already have so many of them?!?"  I learned that they weren't actually all hers. Many of them had been her aunts and her mom's when they were young. They'd never finished moving them out of the apartment. Awww.
     Shortly after I had started, I had uncovered the dolly that we had gifted to Analyse at Christmas time. (You can see it sticking out of her stocking HERE.) Analyse had snatched it up ever so excitedly, played with it a couple of minutes, and then taken it off to show it to her imaginary friend in the mirror. She's so cute to watch - playing in front of the full length mirror on the outside of their bathroom door!
     By the time she returned to where I was working, I had every single stuffed animal dug out of both bins lined up down that couch. you should have seen her eyes pop! And the excited exclamations she made. And then starting at one end, she worked her way down the couch touching and saying "Hi!" to EACH AND EVERY stuffed animal. Some got just a "hi". Other got a 'very excited to see you' type of "Hi!". It was cute. And comical. And endearing. And took up quite a bit of time. This grandma got a whole lot more done while all of those greetings were going on. ;->  "I love it when a plan comes together". (chuckle, chuckle)
     My minds question of "I wonder what she'll do once she's finished her way down the couch" was answered by her walking back to where she had started. All of those ones which had received the warmer "Hi!'s", were individually pulled out and played with before she would return them somewhat to their spot and move on to the next one. Adorable! And time consuming. And from her perspective - fun!! :-)
     By the time everybody else got up, I had all of the regular toys together in one of the bins, almost all of one of the bookcases emptied (the 'stuff' organized in stacks in their dining room), and thus had made great headway in to the 'project'. Plus, I had kept Analyse occupied and happy for a few hours. "Wins" all the way around ;-)

     No, I was not able to take pictures of her and her stuffed animal friends. Sorry. But I can close my eyes and see the cuteness of all of it. Smile producing memories!!!

More timing humor ;-p

    Down a ways in yesterdays posting I wrote, " I love witnessing God's amazing sense of timing and displays of irony and humor in our lives. It happened again this morning."
     Well, He did the timing and humor part again last night too.
     Brian and I were watching an episode of one of our recorded shows. We had already turned the volume up a couple of times. Then suddenly the storms thunder was so-o loud, and so directly overhead, that it sounded like it was trying to break some noise records.
     I pushed the pause button and waited. Brian looked over at me and said, "Yeah, even I  missed that part" chuckle, chuckle.
     I waited a bit, the thunder seemed to have subsided, I stated "take 2" and pushed the play button. IMMEDIATELY the thunder started again. Just as loud as it had been!
     I literally laughed right out loud! "God, your timing is delightful!"
    We waited a minute. Then another. Then turned the volume bar up to in the 40's and continued on, ever so confident that our neighbors still would not be able to hear our TV over the raging storm, even though our windows were all open.

Raising kids

      As I was signing on to the computer this morning, one of Yahoo's(R) leading news stories, was titled 'The no-kids allowed movement is spreading'. I was curious. A conversation from a couple of years ago came to mind. A friend in her thirties had gotten married, and was telling about their honeymoon. They had chosen a 'kid-free' resort to go to. Was this news feature about those type of places? I went to the article to find out.
     The article (written by Piper Weiss) started out with, "What's the matter with kids today? Doesn't anybody want them around?"

     Mentally I answered, 'the problem with kids today, is that most parents aren't interested in earning their "mean parent awards" '.  And of course, as my brain does, examples came to mind.
     The time a couple of months ago, when we were trying to leave a local restaurant, but we had stopped due to a mom up ahead having troubles trying to get the promised candy out of the candy machine. We saw no problem in waiting. But the group behind us did. To the point that they started pressuring our backs. And then two, about twelve year old girls, started trying to squeeze around and out in front of us, and my vertigo was NOT doing good, and they were coming at me from all angles.... but then their mother pushed her way to the front defending them  (they had said "excuse me" - twice even!) and telling us we couldn't speak to her children ...  Yes, I WAS wearing my neck brace when all of this went down.
     The time several months back, when Brain and I had stopped for dinner (and to give my vertigo a break from traveling) at a branch of a chain of restaurants we like. There was a dad at a table, with his son, who at least size wise, appeared to be around 5 or 6 years old. But for the amount of noise coming from that table, you expected to see a large size family sitting there, not a single child! And the things that child was getting away with saying to his dad. Oh. My. Word.
     An elderly couple and their obviously special needs adult son, sat at a table between us and the dad with his young son. Numerous times, the young son would say something which made Brian and I cringe, and then the adult son of the other couple would declare, "That's not right. That's just not right!" While shaking his head and wearing a most distraught expression on his face. His poor parents would try to soothe him, and he'd settle down some, shooting questioning looks at the other table, until the young son would do something bad again and the scenario would repeat itself.
     After a bit, the young son and his dad left, amidst much howling, and dragging, and quite the scene. And we were saddened by the mess the two had left behind. Goodness. The wait staff even had to move the chairs under the tables behind and in front of them to sweep all of the mess up off of the floor.
     Or the time last week that Amie took me to a mission store, trying to get myself some shorts to fit the size I have expanded to. I "of course" (o;-p) went over to the kids clothing section first. There, we had troubles navigating around two young girls, maybe four and five years old? They were having great fun showing each other items off of racks. Off the kids racks. The nearby women's racks. And then sticking items back in where the next item caught their eye. They wandered off after a bit and we were relieved. Only to have them almost plow me over a minute later, as they rounded a corner on a bike the store had for sale. And on it continued.
    We had left the store with relief. Only to groan inside when after a bit, they too entered the next store - which was several miles away. And one of the daughters was all excited to see us again - she recognized my neck brace. Where were their parents - well... never mind.
    
    But back to the article.
    It seems resorts are not the only ones whom are either entirely banning young children, or at the least, making designated "no children" hours. The article also listed airlines, grocery stores, movie theaters, and restaurants, etc.. In-fact, there is a web site you can go to, to find participating places at. It's name? LeaveThemBehind.
   The article asks, "When did kids become the equivalent of second-hand smoke? Blame a wave of childless adults with money to spend. ..."
    Personally, I truly believe that that is only part of the answer. ALL adults like to go out to eat, or see a movie, or spend the night away, with out having to hear and quietly put up with somebody else's children's tantrums. If you left your own kids to home, your trying to escape for goodness sake!
     Now, for the record - I am referring to children whom makes scenes, etc. and their parents do little, to nothing, about it. I know all to well, that you start out saying "MY child will NEVER behave like THAT!" only to have your child seem to try their best to do just exactly what you proclaimed they wouldn't. (insert head smack here 8-/). And from what I've gathered, it's a-l-w-a-y-s worked that away. To the frustration (and sometimes horror) of many generations of parents. And it probably always will.
     The big point is (and it's a extraordinarily HUGE point!), what is you (the parents) response when they do? Do you even bother to respond? Do you back up the words which come out of your mouth? Have your children learned from experience that your serious? And that they best be too!?! OR, are those around you at the time made to suffer, due to your lack of back bone?
     But to the parents whom DO take action, we feel sympathy. And comoderody. And we shoot encouraging smiles. And while we might not appreciate their child's antics - we understand, and thus are willing to 'suffer' a bit.

     As you know, I love witnessing God's amazing sense of timing and displays of irony and humor in our lives. It happened again this morning. About all of this.
    After browsing through my email in-box, I ventured over to Facebook(R).  As I was scrolling down the page listing things friends had posted, I came across one my friend (our previous neighbor) Sara DeWaard Fazio had written/started. She had written something, which others had added to.
     The irony part came in, with how what she had written had to do with things she planned on doing for their two (currently) young daughters, which would most definitely end up earning her "mean mom" awards! And while I have not got to witness her interactions with her kids (they moved out before they had them), I have read enough of the other things she has posted over time to know she's headed the right direction.
     The humor of God's timing played in, with how I found the news article and Sara's posting, the exact same morning.

   Sara had written - "Dear daughters, I make this solemn oath to you: I will never borrow your clothes, your boyfriends, or your belly button rings. We will not get matching tattoos for your 16th birthday (or 21st for that matter). Any underwear I buy you will come in 3 packs. You will beg me to drop you off a block from school and your lunches will have embarrassing notes from me on the napkins. So help me God. Love, Mom."

    Sara's friend Jennifer V. B. wrote - "Love it. I'll add to it.. I'll never buy you or your friends beer and I'll never keep any of your secrets from your daddy."

    Sara had replied, "Oh, good ones! And I will never allow you and your friends to booze it up at our house, even if everyone promises to give me their keys."

    In part of Sara's friend Carrie P.'s comment, she had written, "As the mother of a son, I'll add this promise: I will never try to pick up any of your friends."

    My comment had contained this suggested add on: "I promise to always give you curfews. And to enforce them. And should you choose to break them, they will in turn be moved a half hour earlier."

    Sara's friend Aras M. had commented, "Love this!! To bad this is a rare post. Wish there were more mom's that think this way."

    Carrie P. had added another comment, "I won't let you have 'sleepovers' with your boyfriend/girlfriend in high school (or God forbid, sooner.)."

    I did ask for and was granted Sara's permission to use this material.

    Children use to be considered a blessing. Challenging blessings, to be sure. But blessings never the less. And they were much smiled upon members of communities.

    The article had ended with this question, "Are parents in danger of becoming second-class citizens?"

     If more of them don't start finding and using their back bones, like Sara and her friends have, it's not only going to be the childless couples pushing it that away. It will end up that no-body wants to be by other peoples kids. Period. Take pride in enforcing 'the rules' to your kids. Of teaching them manners. And respect for others. And others properties. Earn those "mean parent" awards!!

   My dad sent me a link to a You Tube(R) video, which contains footage of this guy doing bike tricks all over in Germany. My dad's response was "THIS GUY HAS TO BE NUTS" written in large size script.

This 'Mother hen' ...

     I have been struggling with feeling like a mother hen who just wants to gather all of her chicks close. I am well aware that all four of our sons, as well as our "part time kids", are now in their twenties and thus have every right to go off and live their own lives. And I am okay with that. In-fact, I honestly want them to. I just wish that their "going off" didn't include distance. Or at the least, could the distance be limited to with in a half hours drive?
     I'm sure I've mentioned before, how "our" Amanda went off to college and then ended up living in that general area. An area which is a good three hour drive from here. You drive south east from here to get there.
     Lance joined the Air Force. Currently he is stationed in Virginia, with his wife and their two sons. That is a considerable easterly drive from here.
     Byron too went off to college and ended up staying in that general vicinity, due to meeting and marrying Cyndi there. They have now blessed us with two grandchildren. But the four of them are a good three and a half hour drive south west of here.
     "Our" Kate stopped by last evening for a big hug. She heads off to medical college tomorrow. A trip that will end with her living three hours east of here. 
     As you know, Brent and Kayla are engaged. Brent has been offered and is considering a job which is located north of here. Several hours worth of traveling north. Will he take it? He hasn't decide yet.
     But if he does, that means we will have kids located east, south, west and north of us. And with all of them having their own lives, they thus have varying schedules. So trying to pull everybody together for an event is tricky at best. But I L-O-V-E(!!) it when we're all together! My heart thrills at the animated conversations and the resulting bouts of laughter. And the smiles. And the hugs. Oh do I ever love the hugs!!! 
     So like I mentioned, I am struggling with feeling like a mother hen who just wants to draw all of her chicks close.

     As Kate pointed out, we are blessed. We have the privilege of being able to hear one another's voices via telephones. And if we're on different schedules, we can always pour out our lives, it's challenges, it's blessings, pictures of it, etc., via emails.
     I AM thankful for that. But I am me. And thus, I still struggle with it.
     And then this morning, I at random chose one of the episodes of 'The Waltons' currently waiting my viewing, which our DVR has recorded. I enjoyed the episode. It was titled 'First Day' and is about John-Boy's first day at college. But then at the end of the episode, as John-boy was writing and the narrator was  telling us what he was writing, the Lord yet again showed me that He can and does work through anything.

     A couple of different times recently, we have visited the closest local branch of the Bob Evans chain of restaurants. They are currently running some special chicken sandwich and hamburger specials, as well as fried green tomatoes. AND, their restaurant is air conditioned. Triple win right there! o;-p
    [I was in no way compensated for the above, just voicing our opinion / recommendation.]
    While we were there the first time, we noticed something about these two signs they have in front of parking spaces by one of their doors.
     When we went back the second time, we took the 'kids' with us, and were showing them the signs. We decided that you too might get a chuckle out of them, so we took pictures.
     O-kay, o-kay.... I decided that I should blog about them... and after having some good laughs about all of it at my expense, others used their phones to take pictures for me. Is that better? Geesh... o;-p

     According to Brian, you park in front of sign #1 if your picking up a carry out order to take back home with you. But if instead of taking the order home, your taking it elsewhere (such as a friends house or your church's potluck) then your suppose to park in front of sign #2. ;-p
     In actuality, one sign is much older looking than the other, so we're sure that the wording was just changed along the way. But Brian says his reasoning sounds better.

We met Elliot! :->

    Last Friday evening we headed out of town with warm smiles on our faces. Warm, due to the weather temperatures. But warmer still due to our destination. We were headed to our out-of-state kids home - Byron, Cyndi, Analyse and Elliot.
     Due to the hour of our arrival, two year old Analyse was already down for the night. But five day old Elliot wasn't. :-D  He is ADORABLE!!! Yes, I am yet gain a biased grandma. But honest folks, he really is - ADORABLE!!! So-o-o precious. And cute. And just adorable!
     He currently has reddish hair. So did all of our sons early on. And then they all changed. First to blondes. Later to brunettes. My bothers had been red heads too. We'll see if it changes or stays on Elliot.
     He has very long fingers like his daddy. Such tiny cute long fingers.
     Overall, he is a very content baby. He did have fussy spells every evening. But that is an A-Typical very young baby thing, and his didn't even last over two hours. But for the rest of the day, he mainly only cries when he's wet or hungry.
      And that boy has a hearty appetite! Won't be long at all till he's going through two of those two ounce bottles they were given!
      He's also a good burper!  He'll be plowing his way through a bottle, then suddenly pretty much stop. Your signal it's time to burp him. The majority of the time, that is accomplished amazingly quickly. then he's ready for the rest!
      He is a very strong little dude! Oh my goodness! He was fussin, I was attempting to introduce him to a pacifier. he was swatting my arms away with such vigor.... till I put a couple of drops of the formula on the tip of the pacifier... he took it, and kept it. Most of the time though he looses it after a couple of minutes. That's due to how he's working the thing, not just sucking on it.
     His strength also showed up in how he rolled himself over - off of the table - dizzy or not, this grandma still has fast reflexes! Whew!!! Later, he attempted to roll himself off the couch. Actually, he did. Thankfully, we caught him in mid air. And Cyndi reported that he did the same thing on the examining table, during the doctors checkup.
    Currently, he has blue eyes. We'll see if they change or not.
    Our 'plan' was to take LOTS of pictures and do a bunch of postings, as well as print some of them off for both sets of great grand parents. However, our camera came up MIA shortly in to our weekend...  we're "hoping" that Ms. Analyse had gotten a-hold of it and it will show up soon...
     For now, I can share the couple of pictures that Brian took with his phone. Your right, they aren't the best.... I tried photo editing them on the computer.... I can close my eyes and see him... them... sorry you don't have that option as well.
     
      This one was taken on Saturday. Brian took it because he said it was like Dajavue'. He said it was like a time warp thing... with me sitting there holding one of our own sons. (yes, my neck looks weird... wonderful neck brace....8-/)

      This is Ms. Analyse, proudly wearing the T-shirt Uncle Benson had sent for her from the movie Cars(R) (I'll have to tell you sometime about how he got it ;->)

      And this is Elliot, sitting in the little dolly feeding seat that we had picked up at a mission store for Analyse. Brain (aka: "Pappy") and I were finishing up a project we had been helping Byron with in their living room. Byron had had to leave for work. Analyse was downstairs with the other grandma. Cyndi was someplace. ... Elliot was awake, and content, and we wanted to finish up, but he had been rolling himself off of things, and I didn't want to lay him on a blanket on the floor and then forget he was there as we're scooting things around .... so I propped the seat up on the couch and put him in - it fit like it had been custom made!! Not for long, I know. But he was so-o-o cute in it!

      Due to the temp's, etc., we delayed our 'planned' departure for a couple of hours. We pulled up in front of our house at 12:20 a.m. Wed. morning/Tues. night. HOPEFULLY, either they will be up to traveling soon and come here and we will get more pictures, or we shall find a way to go back there and get some ....
     In the mean time, we're cherishing memories. Of Elliot. And of Ms. Analyse!

     Yesterday he was listening to WOOD Radio on his ride home from work. During his update, the weather man stated, "it's 98 degrees with a wind chill factor of 107".

     Here in Michigan, we are very use to hearing about, as well as feeling the effects of, "wind chill factors". In the middle of winter! Things such as, "it's 19 degrees, but due to the wind chill factor, it feels like it's 8 below".
  
      The meteorologist was putting a tongue in cheek spin on the humidity levels. One Brian enjoyed to the point, that he shared it with us later. ;-D

200 MORE (NEW) 'Theme Day' Options Now Added into list ;->

    Last month, we did a round-up posting of,  " 'Theme Days' / 'meme's' / 'carnivals' / 'Link-up parties' " which various blogs host. You can find that one HERE.  Like we shared then, doing them was something which we had started back on our old blog. The first one had contained 55. Last months one, was up past 450. This one has 200 more than last times did!
      About those numbers. The grand total depends on how you count them. If you go down the list, only counting every time there is a "~" before a theme day name, then you come up with one total. HOWEVER, that's not really an accurate total. Why not? Because a whole lot of them are co-hosted in such a way, that the list is posted on each co-hosts blog. So if you count them up according to every blog site that a link-up party is hook-up-able to on, you end up coming up with a much higher total. Your welcome to take the time and count them up, which ever way you prefer. But no matter which way you do it, your total number is a high one! ;->
(For the record, it was 200 more "~'s" we added. ;-> )
    After the lasting posting, one commenter had said this as part of their comment - "I'd  been wondering if there was a list of linkies, something like the yellow pages of blogland, and then POW! there you were!!" :->!  I (Cheryl)  so-o enjoy my "detective work" {as another commenter had termed it} in tracking down these themes.
