"tidbit" from Chapter 4

The title of Chapter Four (4) in the book, "PRETTY NEAT - the buttoned-up way to get organized and let go of perfection" (which was co-authored by Alicia Rockmore and Sarah Welch, from 'Get Buttoned Up' ), is:
     "LEARN TO JUST SAY NO"

Today's exert comes from page forty (40), starting with the second paragraph on the page.
"WHY DO WE SAY YES WHEN WE REALLY MEAN NO?"
"Saying no is vital to achieving a Buttoned Up life. Without no, finding your focus is an impossibility. Without no, the quality of your relationships and your work diminishes. Without no, your time is not your own. Without no you lose control. Far from being a negative or bad word, no is essential to a sane existence.
So what is it about the word no that makes it so difficult to utter? We found that five things tend to suppress our ability to say no: (1) the potent positive feedback you receive when you do something your naturally good at, (2) an inner desire to be liked, (3) cultural norms, (4) fear of having to justify or fight for your no, and (5) your own lack of clarity. Most often, these drivers lie beneath our conscious awareness. We believe they all can be overcome. ... "

I scanned some of the following subtitles, and the authors go into depth about each of the five 'suppressors'.

Sometimes our 'to-do' lists are overly long due to having said 'yes' to too many people. Therefore we find ourselves involved in more projects than we should be. We've ended up taking on more than we can honestly handle. And thus, not only don't our lists get easily completed, but our stress levels get heightened as well. All because 'we're not good at' saying that one little word. No. A word we never had problems saying as a toddler.

So-o-o readers, what organizational tip or short cut do you have that your willing to share today? It does not have to coilate with today's topic. We just ask that you PLEASE leave one! o;-p  Remember - "The reader who submits the best tip ("organizational tip or short cut") across all participating blogs will also win $250.00."

Reminder: use the "link" in the side bar of our blog, to go back to the original posting which introduced this book and the connected drawings. Then, leave your "organization tip or short-cut" (comment) under that posting. That way it will be counted for our overall number, and they will be sure and find it to consider it in drawing #2. :-)  Thanks!!! ;->
